The Forum is preparing for UNCSD 2010-11 The Forum is a partnership established as an outcome of the 2002 World Summit in Johannesburg. It will report at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) 2010 session on its work to address the priorities included in paragraph 46 of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI). This report of the Forum is attached (PDF). The Forum will also actively participate at the UNCSD 2011 session that will focus on the “way forward” for continuing progress. In preparation for that session, the Forum members are preparing a comprehensive policy framework that will be a compendium of best practices for governments to deal with the full range of issues related to the mining/metals sector. This includes social, environmental and economic issues. To kick start this work,
the Forum conducted and extensive survey of mining in the member countries
and the issues members have to deal with. The results of that survey
were reviewed in the course of the Forum 2009 Annual General Meeting,
held in Geneva October 26-29. Work is now proceeding in the development
of this framework. 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Forum The 2009 Meeting of the Forum took place in Geneva October 26-29, 2009 at the Palais des Nations.
